In this post, I will share with you the 7 steps to consistency, and why consistency is key.
You've probably heard consistency is key. I struggled for years in this industry, until I learned how to be more consistent. This applies to anything in your life.
eg. Eating healthy – You don’t get results by eating healthy for a week, small changes compounded over time produce massive results. Check out The Compound Effect if you haven't read it.
Working out – you’ll have more success being consistent and going to the gym 3 times a week than you will going daily for 2 weeks and then stopping.
- Daily Action Plan
It's easy to get confused about which action to take … Do you connect with more people, post more content, follow-up with people?
When you have precise steps written, you see exactly what you need to do in your business to propel yourself forward. You should also break these into time blocks so you know how much time to spend on each activity. HINT: Spend the majority of your time on income producing activities
2. Focus on your goals
It can be easy to lose focus on your goals. I have a constant reminder of my goals visible to me at all times. This can be a dream board, post its, or other visual cues such as a wallpaper on your computer.
You must have this vision ingrained in you, the best way to do this is to make sure your brain is constantly bombarded with it. What you get in life is what you think about the most.
3. Be specific
A plan to “be more consistent” is far too general.
This is why the goal of “being financially free” is a poor goal. Instead be more specific, eg. expose my business to 5 more people per day, or add 5 new team members to my team per month.
Pick one action to focus on, and when you have become consistent at that, add another.
Some examples are: shoot a video per day, or create 5 blog posts per week.
If you try to tackle these all at once, you will get overwhelmed and most likely accomplish nothing. I recommend you focus on being consistent in one area, then add another when you have achieved that.
4. Make space in your schedule
You’ll spend more time on these new actions, you need to make sure you have time to complete them.
TIP: allocate more time in the beginning. Later, you'll become proficient in these areas and reduce the time they take, making you more productive in your business 🙂
5. Indulge in mindset training (read this post)
Consistency pays off in the long tun, you cannot achieve a huge level of success in the short term. Your mental state will be tested, this is why it’s important to indulge in daily mindset training. You may not see fast results and may be tempted to quit. I’ve been there …
I’ve felt like throwing my computer against the wall and chucking in the towel – it’s ok. Be prepared to face these roadblocks, you need to focus on your desire and power through them. This is what separates leaders from the amateurs in our industry. There will be times that you don’t feel like it. When you don’t feel like doing these things remember this:
The difference between unsuccessful people and successful people, is that successful people do it anyway.
If you’re stuck and feel like you can’t do it you have two choices: quit, or learn how.
Are you a quitter?
You didn’t come into the world knowing how to read, write or even drive, but you learned how to do them right?
6. Keep your goals realistic and measurable (read section 3 here)
Setting unrealistic goals makes it easy to become discouraged. Break your goals into sub goals. eg. if your long term goal is to make $20,000 a month, first set a goal of $1,000 per month, then expand this to $3,000 a month – once you’ve hit that then you can move on from there. Not meeting goals can cause frustration – make your goals measurable so you can track your progress.
7. Don’t be so hard on yourself
The best of us aren’t consistent 100% of the time, I know I’m not! Be consistent as much as possible, but know that life sometimes comes in the way. You cannot predict every circumstance that will arise, just keep moving forward.
Consistency means doing an activity 5-6 times per week. don’t think you can pick a strategy and only do it 1-2 times per week. this is why it is important to do something you love. It's easier to keep on track this way.
